Telstra now has 1.3 million customers

Telstra Inc. declared its much anticipated first half results and according to it, the Australian telecom major now has a subscriber base of an estimated 1.3 million. The company’s prepaid wireless broadband service gets the full credit for this increase as more and more consumers are opting for prepaid wireless broadband service. This service was launched by Telstra in September, 2008. The revenue from wireless broadband services saw an increase of 31.9% and currently stands at $368million.

The CEO of the company, David Thodey is highly elated at the results and is very optimistic about the future prospects the company. He says that the company is committed to providing state of the art broadband services to the consumers and a handsome return to the stake holders.

But this isn’t the exact case why the first half year results of Australia’s one of the best telecom service providers was awaited. The whole country was actually waiting to know whether the proposed deal between NBN and Telstra would get through or not.

Australian government had offered Telstra $42million for its cable networks and subscriber base for its prospective high speed optic fibre broadband project in the country through its flagship telecom company NBN. The deal was proposed in November last year but till now no decision has been reached on it. The price is being seen as the major roadblock as Telstra is seeking more for the external use of its assets. Now we can wait and watch for any favorable or unfavorable developments on the deal.
